I know it’s good for humans to spend more time outside. But I have a hard time getting myself to do it without a reason, such as errands or appointments or social engagements. Maybe if our outdoor space were more private, I’d go out there more. I probably would. But it’s exposed to our next door neighbors’ yard and house, and I prefer to not be observed.

I realized the other day that I hadn’t seen the Orion constellation this whole winter. I used to go outside more, when we lived somewhere where we couldn’t park by the house. That was really annoying, but it had the added advantage of regular night sky viewings, fresh air, and exposure to one of the best views in my area.

I have one kid who enjoys going out of doors, but she gets worn out by her job. And the other kid is often game for things but he’s away from home. And Rory prefers to be inside more. So it’s an uphill battle to get myself to go out, because I also don’t like doing out-of-house things by myself.

Perhaps a future living situation will help.
