Not exactly a moving van, but we could definitely use one of these.

So, we have about five months to pack up our entire house and move to an as-yet-unknown-future-house/apartment/whatever-we-can-find. (If you’re local to me, and you know of an safe, affordable place that’ll house 3 1/2 people, please let me know.)

We haven’t moved in seven years, so this is hard. Plus the prospect of having to put some other life goals on hold, yet again, to make this happen is breaking my heart.

So, my brain works on organizing the process. Breaking it down into monthly goals. Then further from there, into tiny little steps of what needs to be done.

We can’t pack room by room, because that’s not how things are. We’ll need to start by creating some staging areas in the house and garage. Then purging as many things as we can. And packing up things we know we won’t need for at least six months, purging more as we go. Then slowly packing more and more, until we’ve hit June and can start packing things we use more often.

I’ve had a lot of body pain (especially back pain) in recent years, though, and Rory’s got his own body pain, as does my daughter, so this whole project is intimidating is heck. And then we’ll add insult to possibly literal injury because we can’t actually afford market rent around here and have only managed up to now because we are very fortunate in our friends (one of whom has been our landlady).

But! My brain says that if it makes the right plan, we will be able to pace ourselves and get this all done. We have a bit of time on our side, but only if we start now.
