I thought this was a perfect image for both Hunter S. Thompson (embracing the weird) and the kind of life I want to live (full of the comforts and safety of home (cat) but also full of interesting experiences and adventures (helmet)).

I came across this quote by Hunter S. Thompson a few days ago, and it’s really stuck with me.

“Beware of looking for goals: look for a way of life. Decide how you want to live and then see what you can do to make a living within that way of life.”

It really spoke to me, because I think that is some of the best advice you can give adults of any age, and teenagers, especially, as they’re thinking about how they want to spend their lives.

As a teen or young adult, I definitely didn’t have enough experience, self-understanding, or foresight about the world to figure out how I wanted to live my life or what I wanted it to look like. I knew very little about what I wanted to happen in my life (and it’s still that way, unfortunately). But this is a good place to start. I know what I want my life to look like on a micro scale, day to day, week to week, so this is a perspective that might help me figure out new ways to integrate making a living within that. Maybe.
