I’ve always loved video games (which might be a surprise to you if you know me). The first one I played was Pong, which our neighbors had and we got to try out. Then we played a lot of Asteroids, as a friend of my mom’s had a two-person sit-down console in their house. Then our Atari 5200… And a couple of other consoles over the years, plus computer-based video games.

These days, though, so, so many popular games with a lot of content and stuff to do in them are based on fighting. But I don’t like fighting. Especially when it’s most of the point of the game. The occasional arrow shot to kill a foe is fine (I’m definitely a range-weapon person, not a tank, to the surprise of no one), but I prefer to explore, gather, complete quests, figure out puzzles, and participate in holiday events.

Rory and I used to play Guild Wars 2, which was nice for a while, but there was so much fighting required, and far too many jumping puzzles. And a lot of the big events were just fight after fight. Yawn.

But someone turned me on to Palia, which is lovely and the only weaponry I’ve found so far is that you sometimes have to go hunting (and later fishing). But when you hit your target, they turn into a bag of treasure, so there isn’t even any gore.

If you want to try it out, let me know. I can give you a referral code, I think? And then we both get some kind of bonus.
