One of my favorite books from last year was The House By the Sea by May Sarton, one of her collections of journals. I’m enjoying it every bit as much as I enjoyed her Journal of a Solitude.

There was one quote that is perfect for a new year. She quotes a Christmas card that was sent to her in 1975 by Vincent Hepp:

“‘Enormous or not, life is made of small things, small happinesses chained like daisies, one by one. Let the next year be such a chain for you.’”

It’s a great reminder that life is about the little things, even more than the big things, and to seek out small joys where we can.
